Ocean Exploration Nearby Treasure Island
A whole host of popular dive sites are located within the marine sanctuary that surrounds the Mamanuca’s. Favourites include;
- Plantation Pinnacle – a great place for beginners to introduce themselves to a deep-sea diving adventure.
- Namotu Wall – frequented by large schools of pelagic fish along with all the usual seafaring animals such as Rays, White Tipped Reef Sharks, Squid, Eels etc.
- Gotham City – holy Batfish! This zone features vibrant soft and hard corals, plus a myriad of tropical fish including the aforementioned Batfish, Angel Fish & the rainbow coloured Parrot Fish to name but a few.
- Vonu Range – Vonu means turtle in Fijian language and there’s plenty of these majestic creatures to see here. Keep a look out for the impressive Green Sea Turtle and the Hawksbill Turtle.
- The Supermarket – this dive site is a hive of reef shark activity along with a few (fortunately) well-fed Tiger Sharks.
All the above sites are conveniently close to Treasure Island, at say a 20-60-minute scenic boat transfer from the resort. Naturally, there’s a few lesser known spots that offer an epic Fiji diving experience and depending on weather conditions your expert dive guide can likely visit those too. Top Tip; the snorkelling right off shore from our private island resort is A1 and guests are always welcome to grab a snorkel mask and flippers for free from the on-site dive shop anytime.
Scuba Diving Highlights
Expect to encounter schools of wahu, mahi mahi, trevally and barracuda and assorted tropical fish species when diving the outer reefs. Colourful sea fans and soft corals are found within deep reef walls and a wide variety of invertebrates can be spotted living in the overhangs. Common sea creatures’ in the South Pacific Ocean that divers are almost guaranteed to see include; turtles, giant clams, manta ray and reef sharks. Whether you’re a novice diver or at expert level an astute team of dive instructors are always on hand to ensure you have an adventurous dive experience. Underwater topography around the Mamanuca’s includes reef walls, intricate coral bommies and channels of variable depths – the ideal mix for a broad range of diving abilities. The tropical water is warm year-round in Fiji and ocean visibility is fantastic…a perfect combo for the ultimate scuba diving experience.
