Host Profile

NAME: MILIKA TALABOKO

POSITION: ROOMS DIVISION MANAGER

SHORT BRIEF OF YOURSELF:

I hail from Rukua Village, Beqa Island

My Personality – I am always mindful of guests’ satisfaction.

NUMBER OF YEARS AT TREASURE ISLAND RESORT:  35yrs

WHAT IS MOST REWARDING ABOUT YOUR JOB:

Most rewarding is how I always handle difficult guests by first listening to their side of the story and ensure to deal with the problem right there and then.

IF guests are happy my day is filled with joy

YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT ON THE JOB:

Seeing most family guests keep coming in and kids growing till they come back to get married, it’s been really wonderful.

Guests experience that they are a genuine part of the Treasure family.

WHAT IS YOUR WORST FUNNIEST AND/OR STRANGEST CUSTOMER RELATED EXPERIENCE:

Worst experience is cyclone Bibi way back when all the guests and staff were taken to the main building and everyone was kept there through out the night. Coffee and tea were served and all the island staff was on standby until morning.

Guests help by clearing all branches as sand came right to the reception area and the main Fijian bure.

WHAT SIGNIFICANT CHANGES HAVE YOU SEEN OVER THE YEARS ON TREASURE ISLAND:

Our glass chapel is one our most important selling tools and on top of all now is our new Treasure Island Swimming Pool Complex which makes it a lot different from other resorts. The Best Around.

ADVICE TO OTHERS:

Do your work well and with all your good heart. When you do something wrong admit that you wrong and move on.

NAME: MAX RELAX (TALABOKO)

POSITION: PUBLIC RELATIONS & MARINE SHOP MANAGER

SHORT BRIEF OF YOURSELF:

Village: Nabouwalu,Ono, Kadavu

Hobbies: Sports Fishing, Cooking, Socializing & Meeting People & making new friends

Personality: A Caring & Very Relaxed kinda guy

Family: My Wife Mrs. Milika Talaboko, 6 sons & 3 Daughters - Between (2 Marriages) & 12 Grand Children

NUMBER OF YEARS AT TREASURE ISLAND RESORT:  22 Years

WHAT IS MOST REWARDING ABOUT YOUR JOB:

Having the great opportunity to meet up with New Friends everyday….I do not have to travel around the world…the world comes and stop here at Treasure!!

YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT ON THE JOB:

When I took time off to help set up the Mokusiga Island Resort…the Late Turaga Tui Vuda, Ratu Sir Josaia Tavaiqia phoned to remind me not to forget his people of Nakelo, the Treasure Island Land Owners.

I jumped on the next boat the very next morning and returned to Treasure.

WHAT IS YOUR WORST FUNNIEST AND/OR STRANGEST CUSTOMER RELATED EXPERIENCE:

Worst Customer Related Experience:

Meeting up with those Guests that arrive with already negative thoughts of the island after some worse experience from other properties. Of course it takes a bit of energy to get them back on track and to re- gain their confidence.

Funniest Experience:

When you see some of our guests, especially our Japanese friends, you’d think they would know it all, but when they fit on their Snorkeling masks & fins and walk 20 to 30metres to TRY and reach the sea, they sure look very strange and are all ways are funny.

WHAT SIGNIFICANT CHANGES HAVE YOU SEEN OVER THE YEARS ON TIR:

I have come through and since many changes like the change of Business Ownership, the Management Structure, I joined when Beachcomber and Treasure were still merged and was known as ‘Island in the Sun’, they then went on their stand alone. Relocation of our Head Office from the Island to Lautoka and from Lautoka to now at Nadi Airport, Old staff retiring and seeing our young new recruits arriving, releasing of those turtles from the ponds that are old enough and can survive in the wild and the arrivals of those young turtles newly hatched. Children of our own staff that were tiny Toddlers many years back are now on the island as trainee ready to carry on the ropes from mum or dad and of course very interestingly…the young kids of our guests that usually travel in with their Mums and Dads are now returning on their own.

ADVICE TO OTHERS:

Always be disciplined: There is no easy way to become a disciplined person. It has nothing to do with talent or ability. It is not a matter of conditions, but of choice.

NAME: HENRY WAQACIRI

POSITION: AIRPORT SALES

SHORT BRIEF OF YOURSELF:

There is only 1 island in Fiji that is called the GARDEN ISLAND and that is where I’m from “TAVEUNI”. I think I’ve got a good heart which is very important. With my hobbies, I like to do things that make me happy & relaxed. My family, I’ve got a lovely wife and 3 lovely children and without them I would be nothing. For my education, I went to a Catholic boarding School for 6 years where I learnt to be independent.

NUMBER OF YEARS AT TREASURE ISLAND RESORT:

I left Plantation Island in 1993 and started at Treasure Island in 1994.

WHAT IS MOST REWARDING ABOUT YOUR JOB:

When I can put a smile on our guests faces, that is the best reward I will ever get and also to see them coming back to the island, it is like welcoming a family member because it makes you feel good.

YOUR MOST MEMORABLE MOMENT ON THE JOB:

When I got married on the island in 1996. The church service started at 12NOON and I was still with the Kids Club in the pool at 11.30am.

WHAT IS YOUR WORST FUNNIEST AND/OR STRANGEST CUSTOMER RELATED EXPERIENCE:

I was doing a cooking lesson last year. It was raining and there were about 30 people watching. I was making Fish with Coconut Cream. Before I started I dropped the tray on the floor breaking about 5 plates and splashing all the ingredients on the floor. Everyone was laughing but I told them “don’t worry, just give me 5 minutes and I’ll be back”. Later on they tasted my favorite dish and everyone said that it was the BEST. But dropping the tray was not a good start but they all enjoyed my demonstration and maybe I should start my own TV SERIES…HENRY CAN COOK.

WHAT SIGNIFICANT CHANGES HAVE YOU SEEN OVER THE YEARS ON TIR:

Treasure is 35 years old this year. It has taken this long to actually see changes. From my point of view the previous owners, even though they started it, were more into making money than spending money. With the way we are going now we can put more stars on our property and making it the best in Fiji.

ADVICE TO OTHERS:

I just want to let our returnees know that whenever you come to Treasure you bring joy to us and our families and we hope to see you every year so that you can see the New Treasure.

To the families that have been to Treasure so many times, once again Thank You and Vinaka Vakalevu for your tremendous support and my only request is if you can pass on the GOOD NEWS about Treasure to your families and friends so that they too can enjoy ‘One of life’s simple pleasures’.
