January 2008

From the Desk of Graeme Back - Group General Manager.

Bula Dear friends,

On behalf of me, Meg and the kids and your committed host of Treasure Island Resort, we wish you a very warm Merry Christmas and a wonderful 2008.

Much has happened through out the last 12 months and this is our 4th newsletter for the year.

We have had a very busy Christmas and New Year period with many returnees joining us for a fantastic Christmas day celebration and a very memorable New Years Eve beach party. The weather was just perfect with fire works at mid night and the famous Treasure Island Resort band keeping the beach party alive until well into 2008.

I ask myself, where has the last 12 months gone? Well, trying to keep Treasure Island Resort and Bounty Island Resorts  busy with guest and ensuring our loyal and dedicated host’s are fully employed, upgrading the Restaurant and bar area, working on proposed improvements for 2008 to name a few areas my time has gone into.

To each and every one of you who visited us during the last 12 months over what has been a very challenging time for Fijian Tourism and those of you thinking of us we say vinaka and thank you so much, our team appreciate your support do look forward to welcoming you back in 2008.

2007 the year that was!

Many highlights and some lowlights with Fiji being in the international media for in some cases great reasons like  Fiji reaching the quarter finals with New Zealand and Australia in the Rugby World Cup!

We saw many returnees take advantage of our pre paid $250 per night offer, this was a great success.

We completed the room soft refurbishment by mid March 2007, this has received many favorable comments.

We commenced refreshing the Restaurant and Bar area with new tiles, chairs and tables as well as new lighting scheme and the closing in and air conditioning of the Ganilau Restaurant.

While Tourism in Fiji continues to suffer the after affects of December 2006, we are very proud that we have been able to keep our full time host fully employed, while we have not been able to complete additional projects because of cash restraints we respect and value that some of the key reasons you our very special returnee guest continue to visit us year after year is our host.

We opened our airport office for our meet and greet service to commence from when you arrive in Fiji. Henry our well respected and much loved public relations officer from Treasure Island Resort has relocated to the mainland and will be there to welcome you all when using our direct transfer service to Treasure Island Resort and Bounty Island Resort. Please remember, you can be on either Island with in 1 hour of being met by Henry and his team at the airport.

Over 900 Hawkes Bill baby Turtles hatched on Treasure Island Resort. We retained over 150 Hawkes Bill Turtles for our head start programme, by rearing these turtles for the first 12 months of their lives, we are increasing the population chance of survival significantly as the mortality rate is very high in the first 12 months of their lives. We have currently 8 turtle nests between Treasure Island Resort and Bounty Island.

Looking Forward to 2008

We were optimistic that business would have returned to pre coup levels by the end of 2007 and this simply has not happened, we are expecting business will continue to be very tough for most of this year as well. With this in mind I am offering to our loyal customers another pre paid offer for use for the first half of 2008 as follows:

This promotion is valid until January 31st 2008. What I can do if you wish to take advantage of this special promotion, I will extend the payment programme until the 29th February 2008, (remember please, this offer can only happen every 4 years!)

Room Rate $275 per night (Includes VAT and HTT), this is for a minimum of 5 nights and there is no limit to how many room nights you can purchase, why not by some room nights as gifts for your family members!

This pre paid promotion is valid for stays from 1st February 2008 through to 30th June 2008, 1st October 2008 through to 31st December 2008.

We look forward to welcoming you back this year.

While we are expecting business to be challenging, we are committed to continuing our product improvement programme. Our goal is to complete the following during 2008(Subject to our business climate)

The new Kids Club Bure: located in the centre of the Island in close proximity to the turtle breeding pool. We know this is long over due for replacement since the fire of November 2005. We have spent considerable time working on our master redevelopment plan and could only clearly start the re building of the facility once we had agreed where it should be located.

We will complete a new prototype guest Bure that will be larger and well appointed to set a new standard for our guest experience.

I will update on additional projects as they are about to commence.

From and environmental perspective, we have completed our sustainability positioning statement that will assist us in improving our focus on reducing our carbon foot print. As an example, we have recently installed gas instant hot water systems for all Bures, this has reduced our carbon emission per year by about 184 tonnes. This is a great start.

We have introduced Bio Fuel for our tractors which is a mix of 85% coconut oil and 15% kerosene (I am sure the blending is not as simple as that) but we have set targets to reduce diesel consumption during this year of 10% and this all helps.

We have commenced our own reef protective diving team to assist in repair and removal of pest to our delicate marine environment and we are seeing great results of this programme already.

Brad and the team are currently working on new menus to be in place by the middle of February 2008 so I look forward to tasting the new ideas we will be introducing.

Kids Club ably managed by Sala and Losanna has introduced some new and educational activities for our younger visitors to our beautiful Island. The school visit on the mainland was a great success during the later part of last year and will be re introduced once school starts again in Fiji (about the last week in January).

24 hour access to Treasure Island Resort and Bounty Island Resort

We have been providing a very successful service that meets ALL international fights during the day and night.

Just to re confirm this service for you. We offer directly, departures from Vuda Marina that is about 30 minutes from the air port that will meet all late afternoon and evening flights from New Zealand and Australia. We also meet the early morning flight from Melbourne that will have to Treasure Island Resort by 8am (subject to schedule changes). Why spend that night on the mainland when you can be welcomed home by your host with in hours of arriving to Fiji. If you have any further questions about this service, you can contact me directly and I will clarify with how the service works.

35 years since Treasure Island Resort commenced welcoming guest

We opened our doors for business as one of the pioneering full service Island Resort in April 1973, we are still to come up with a special programme that will consist of a week of celebrations watch this space for more information about the special celebration week we will have this year.

Where are they now?

A word from Brad - Director of Operations

Bula Vinaka!

Well after carefully considering the valuable feedback from customers over the preceding months, we have launched into the development of a new menu concept for the Eluvuka Restaurant. The new concept, due for launch in February 2008 will have a greater variety for our valued guests and show cases the varied talents of the kitchen team offering selections from Fiji and the South Pacific, Oceania, Asia and even a little touch of Europe. We hope to offer something to satisfy every one. New programs throughout 2008 will see the introduction of seasonal specials based on various festivals from around the world. Yes an Aussie BBQ in January and Hotdogs & Pecan Pie on July 4th.  General improvements are ongoing throughout the property with new fencing around the maintenance yard, further development in our ongoing environmental program with a new environmentally friendly laundry on the island.  We are pleased to also announce some upgrades on our sister island, Bounty with the establishment of a nightly disco, and the pending launch of an all new A La Crate option for guests. Previously Bounty like most of the budget islands offers a simple daily buffet only for meal choices so we are working to keep it one step ahead.

Regards Brad
